Running Bitcoin: Join us to raise funds for ALS research
January 7 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
🏃 Join us for a group jog supporting of the ALS Association! This is a fun way to kick-off the new year, stay fit, and support something positive.
**What are we doing?**
Several members of the Atlanta BitDevs and BitPlebs communities have [formed a team](https://secure2.convio.net/alsa/site/TR/Endurance/GoldenWest?team_id=408674&pg=team&fr_id=15435) to participate in the Running Bitcoin challenge.
We’re going to meetup at Terminus Electric Money Lab. Then we’re going to jog 2 miles up the Atlanta Beltline to Piedmont Park, do a loop around the dirt track, and then find a nice place for lunch and a beer(s). Afterwards, we’ll walk 2 miles back to Terminus or you can get a rideshare back.
**What’s the backstory?**
Legendary cypherpunk Hal Finney was one of the first adopters of bitcoin ([here’s his famous tweet](https://twitter.com/halfin/status/1110302988) from January 10, 2009). Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with ALS later that year and passed away in 2014.
This fundraising run is organized by Hal’s family to raise money for the ALS association, which funds research into treatment and cures for ALS. People all around the world participate as individuals or on teams.
We will be meeting outside in the courtyard here:
⚡️ Terminus Electric Money Laboratory
691 John Wesley Dobbs Ave
Atlanta, GA 30312
🚙 Parking Lot
225 Sampson St NE
There is a very large gravel parking lot next-door which you may park in for free. Then enter the courtyard with the murals painted on the walls. We’ll meet here. If you have trouble finding us, you may contact us via our Telegram Group: [https://atlantabitdevs.org/telegram/](https://atlantabitdevs.org/telegram/)
🚨 Atlanta BitDevs is a community focused on the development of Bitcoin and related protocols. Our meetup groups are great places to learn if you are interested in working on Bitcoin. Everyone is welcome, but keep in mind that discussions will be very technical! If you are interested in less developer-focused events and just want to learn about Bitcoin in general, we recommend our sister-group Atlanta BitPlebs: https://www.meetup.com/atlanta-bitplebs/
