Red Empire Ahead? Nostalgia of the Naughty Auties That You Wish You Had Known

January 25 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Naughty Auties (auties, an [alt-name for the decade of 2000s](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000s)), a decade many new-gen oversea Chinese have their memory about China frozen at; a go-go growth era where a swath of foreigners set their feet in the “land of no-cheese”, then witnessed the hyper growth period in real time; and perhaps also an administration many start to feel nostalgia of, accentuated by the ending three-years covid-isolation from the world.

“Naughty Auties” is the term coined by Jeremy Goldkorn, a foreigner lived in Beijing through out that decade, in his essay [“2000s: Jiang Zemin and the naughty Auties”](https://thechinaproject.com/2022/11/30/jiang-zemin-and-the-naughty-aughties/) selected by the book [“The Chinese Communist Party: A Century in Ten Lives.”](https://www.amazon.com/Chinese-Communist-Party-Century-Lives-ebook/dp/B092R17MYZ)

The essay will be the foundation for the presentation by the organizer (as an oversea Chinese) to dissect the differences between two administrations through rear view mirrors and memories. With the central question to answer: Is it all but a nostalgia before the inevitable red empire ahead?

Doors open at 18:30, the event will start at 19:00.

Note that the doors close at 19:00, and that it will not be possible to join from then on. Contact the organizers for special arrangement.
