Bitcoin Wales @ Tramshed Tech. The Lost Bitcoins
August 10 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Can you imagine losing **8,000 bitcoin**, knowing where they are but not being able to get to them? Even if you were very early into Bitcoin through mining or buying some yourself and managed to buy 8,000 bitcoin would you still even have them today, would you have lost them another way or sold them all by now anyway?
Join us tonight for some Bitcoin history that is potentially still not over as we talk about the 8,000 bitcoin mined in 2009 that are currently sitting lost in a Newport City Council landfill site. We’ll be joined by **James Howells** ([@howelzy](https://twitter.com/howelzy)) the Welshman who sadly lost the hard drive with the private keys on when Bitcoin was still very much in its early years.
For almost a decade the council has denied his requests to dig for his hard drive, saying it would be expensive and environmentally damaging, but James is not deterred. His new $11 million proposal, backed by venture-capital funding to search up to 110,000 tons of rubbish could take anywhere from 18mths to 3yrs if it gets approval from the council. Come and hear about the story first hand and what James plans to do if he ever successfully recovers his lost bitcoin.
There will be FREE beer & soft drinks.
6pm – Arrive, chat & drinks
7pm – James Howells – The Lost Bitcoins + Q&A
When we finish, members wanting to chat further are welcome to join other members at the Prince of Wales pub near Cardiff Central train station.
This is an open meetup for anyone who has an interest in cryptocurrencies whether you’re a beginner or an expert and we look forward to seeing you on the night.
Please RSVP attendance as limited spaces are available.
